On Tuesday 15 August, Supply Chain Sustainability School is holding a two-hour virtual conference to explore how social value is being delivered through offsite production.
The conference comes a year after the Supply Chain Sustainability School published its report entitled ‘Delivering Social Value through Offsite Construction’. This report proposed that offsite construction can – and does – create significant social value for an area through direct employment and training opportunities; reduced carbon emissions, nuisance and waste; and improved workplace wellbeing and air quality.
About the offsite construction conference
The conference will bring together speakers from offsite manufacturing, Tier-1 contracting and academia to see how and where some of these improvements have already been realised.
In particular, it will examine the benefits that accrue to the workforce through improved working conditions, diversity of opportunity and career progression afforded by offsite manufacture.
Speakers at the conference will include experts from Top Hat, Cambridge University and SES Engineering Services.
The conference will cover topics that include:
- The rapidly changing demographic of the construction industry and the evidence of a workforce in decline
- The potential for traditional skills to be replaced or lost altogether
- The potential for social value to be derived from either static or temporary manufacturing facilities
- Some of the cultural and behavioural issues of implementing new ways of working.
When and where?
The virtual conference will take place via Zoom from 9am – 11am on Tuesday 15 August. Places are limited. You can register your spot on the Supply Chain Sustainability School website.
